LifeWaterAfrica.org provides biosand water filters to villages in Tanzania, East Africa.

Over 1 billion people on this planet do not have access to clean water and each day close to 5000 children die from diarrhea caused by contaminated water.

This photograph does not reflect despair but rather the HOPE that you can make a difference in Sophia’s life and that of thousands of other children in Africa.

Biosand water filters
remove 99% of bacteria, and impurities.  The cost per water filter is $150.  This includes the cost of construction materials, transport, and the salary for one worker who will supervise installation and do followup visits.

LWA Foundation
director, Gail LaRocca installed the first water filter in the village of Mikocheni.  Some months later, a group of mothers journeyed to the home of Gail's colleague, Faye Cran, to say 'thank you' and request 22 more filters.  Gail's drive to raise funds for the filters was emboldened by the mothers' comment - "Our babies are no longer dying from diarrhea when they drink water from the filter."  LifeWaterAfrica.org was born.
